Private William Winters

William Winters was the son of William and Annie Winters, of Oatlands, Glasgow, he enlisted in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Winters successfully completed ground training at Hardwick, prior to parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 26 from 7 to 12 September 1942 and was posted to HQ Company, 3 Platoon, 5th Battalion the Parachute Regiment and took part in operations in Italy, Southern France and Greece.

Pte Winters was killed in action on 27 December 1944, aged 23, and was given a field burial in Athens Town and was re-interred to Phaleron War Cemetery on 16 January 1945.
