24 May 1948 - 07 Apr 1973

Cpl Steven Norris Harrison of 2 PARA and from Birmingham was killed in an ambush at Tullyogallaghan near Newtownhamilton on 7 April 1973, aged 24 years. He was killed in the same explosion as L/Cpl Terence Brown.

The following obituary notice appeared in the Pegasus Journal in July 1973:
"Corporal Steven Harrison (Anti-Tank Platoon) was killed in a terrorist mine explosion near Newtownhamilton on the 7th April 1973. He was on his fifth tour of duty in Northern Ireland. He was in the leading vehicle of a mobile patrol from the Anti-Tank Platoon when a mine explosion occurred. Steven joined the 2nd Bn in 1966 after three years boy's service and he served with the Bn in Bahrain, England and Northern Ireland, reaching the rank of Corporal in the Anti-Tank Platoon. He proved to be a most promising, capable and conscientious young NCO, liked and respected by all, and one who had a great future in the Regiment. He possessed ability, cheerfulness and good humour and was the epitome of leadership by example. He will be a great loss to the Bn."

Steven was a good pal and a great soldier. We worked well together in the mountains as a Gun Team in 12 platoon. I was serving with 3 Para when he invited me to his forthcoming wedding but sadly he did not survive long enough to get Wed.
