Ronald Ellis was born in February 1922 and enlisted for army service in 1939 at the age of 17 (giving his age as 18 at the time).

After a few months in the British Expeditionary Force in 1940, he served in the Yorkshire and Lancaster Regiment of the Territorial Army (6th Battalion) until Feb 1944.

He was then transferred to the Army Air Corps after completing his paratrooper training and joined the 5th (Scottish) Parachute Battalion.

From 1944 to 1946 he served in North Africa, France, India, Malaya, Singapore, Batavia, Semarang and finished his service as part of the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force.

He returned home in November 1946 and was discharged from service in Feb 1947.

After his service he took up a job as an ambulance driver, later training to be a paramedic and working as one until his retirement.

Ron died in January 2016 at the age of 93, leaving behind his wife Bernie and his granddaughter Lizzie.
