Private Robert William Stokes, son of William Alfred and Anne Elizabeth Stokes, of Brentwood, Essex, served with 2nd Parachute Battalion. He took part in the Battle of Arnhem, during Op Market Garden.
He died on 20 October 1944, aged 35 years old. He is now buried at Oosterbeek War Cemetery, Arnhem.
