Richard Ramsey served with Junior Parachute Company Malta Bks from 13 September 1966 till April 1968. He then went to Depot Para as a member of 331 Pltn  at Browning Bks. In October 1968  Richard was posted to 3 PARA  and then went to Malta on 7 December 1968.

He returned from Malta in October 1970 and on 4 January 1971 was posted with 3 Para to NI. He was awarded GSM and returned on 4 June 1971. The next posting was a Cyprus UN tour (UN medal awarded) from May 1972 till October 1972.

On completion of his service he joined BT, where he worked until September 2000.

Richard then joined the Wiltshire and Somerset Colleges Partnership. This company delivered Level 3 Telecoms apprenticeships to all The Royal Signals including 216 Para Signal Sqn. He helped develop the apprenticeship from Level 2 and 3 telecoms to all Infantry units including 1,2 and 3 Para and The Royal Gibraltar Regiment. He was also responsible for delivering L4 Apprenticeships to the Intelligence Corps.

When Richard retired in 2018 he became the Deputy Contract Manager for Telecoms and Int Corps at The Colleges Partnership who are still delivering Apprenticeships to the Army.
