I distinctly remember my Dad telling me a story of one of his training jumps at ringway . He said he knew something was wrong on the way down because of all the activity below on the runway ( grass) .on landing M.Ps arrived and took all his stick out to the spot where the body had landed after a candle ( Shute failed to open) …the indenture was 6 inches deep apart from the head area which only left a 1 inch dent …anyway the MPs ushered them all into a nearby hut where his C.O. Came in and offered them a confidence jump , l asked him what that was and he said “ if you got to the door and refused to jump you didn’t get court martialled” anyway to a man they all said they didn’t want one as it was another opportunity to get a Candle and so the training and jumps continued..he knew the poor guys name but he’s died now so no record …the girl who packed the schute was in tears and wanted to prove her dedication so she actually jumped herself 2 days later with a schute she’d packed …
