Sergeant John Hay Hughes was the son of William and Mary Hughes, of Edinburgh, Scotland, and husband of Agnes Hughes, also of Edinburgh. He served with 5th Parachute Battalion and took part in the Italian campaign and was posthumously awarded the Military Medal in May 1944.
Sergeant Hughes died on 4 February 1944, aged 30 years old. He is now buried at Moro River Canadian War Cemetery, Italy.
