Op Toral

16/02/2015 - 13/08/2021

Operation Toral was the codename for the British presence within Afghanistan post-2014 as part of NATO's Resolute Support Mission. UK forces had two major tasks: training and mentoring Afghan Forces, and providing force protection for NATO advisors via the Kabul Security Force/Kabul Protection Unit.

2nd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment were deployed on Op Toral IX between 8 November 2019 and 9 May 2020.

The operation finally drew to a close on 8 July 2021 with the withdrawal of US and NATO forces from the country.

However, British troops were subsequently redeployed under Operation Pitting in August 2021 to evacuate British nationals and staff following the 2021 Taliban offensive.
