4th/6th Parachute Battalion

The 4th/6th Parachute Battalion was formed by the amalgamation of  4th Parachute Battalion  and 6th Parachute Battalion in December 1947.

The 4th and 6th Parachute Battalions had perviously served in Palestine and sailed for the United Kingdom in January 1947, as part of the 2nd Parachute Brigade Group.

After a brief stay in Perham Down the battalion moved to Lübeck,Germany, in February 1948 to operate as part of the British Army of the Rhine.

In July 1948, it was redesignated as 1st Battalion, The Parachute Regiment.
