Driver William W Platt

10 Jun 1901 - 18 Aug 1944

William Walker Platt was the son of Robert and Margaret Elizabeth (Walker) Platt; husband of Bessie Linsey (Cunliffe) Platt, of Chorley, Lancashire, married July 1926, Chorley, Lancs. He enlisted in the Royal Army Service Corps and volunteered for Airborne Forces.

Driver Platt successfully completed glider training and was posted to 443 Air Liaison Section, Royal Army Service Corps, and took part in Operation Overlord (D Day landings).

Dvr Platt was killed in action on 18 August 1944, aged 42, and is commemorated on the Bayeux Memorial to the missing.
