Signalman William A Stafford

William Aylmer Stafford was the son of John and Agnes Stafford; husband of Irene Stafford, of Barnsley, Yorkshire, he enlisted in the General Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.

Signalman Stafford successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway and was posted to 6th Airborne Divisional Signals, Royal Corps of Signals, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

Sgmn Stafford was killed in action on 15 June 1944, aged 23, and was buried in Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France.
