Private William Owen

William Owen was the son of William Arthur and Sarah Owen, of Darlaston, Staffordshire, enlisted in General Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Owen successfully completed his glider training and was posted to B Company, 2nd (Airborne) Battalion, South Staffordshire Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte Owen was killed in action between 24/26 September 1944, aged 20, and was given a field burial between Benedendorpsweg 119 and the Van Hofwegen laundry, Ploegseweg, Oosterbeek, and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 27 May 1946.
