Private William M Holme

23 Sep 1944

William Myles Holme, son of William and Margaret Holme, of Middleshaw, Westmorland, enlisted in The Border Regiment and volunteered for Airborne forces.

Private Holme successfully completed Glider training and was posted to 1st (Airborne) Battalion the Border Regiment. He took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte Holme was killed in action on 23 September 1944, aged 29. He was originally buried in an isolated field grave in a small copse, alongside Pte Charles Anderson. They were reinterred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 28 January 1946.
