William Alexander Lane know as "Shady" to his friends and "Alec" to his family served with the 42 Bn the Royal Tank Regiment in North Africa before transfering to the Parachute Regiment around 1943-44.

William undertook Parachute Course 144 in Nov/Dec 1944 and served with the 3rd Battalion of the Parachute Regiment untill 1946.

William died in 1996 whilst laying a wreath at the war memorial in Canvey Island Essex.
