Gunner William James

William James was the son of William and Mary James, of Selby, Yorkshire, he enlisted into the Royal Artillery and volunteered for airborne forces.

Gunner James successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway and was posted to 4 Airlanding Anti-Tank Battery, Royal Artillery, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

Gnr James was killed in action on 6 July 1944, aged 35, and was buried in Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France.
