Private William J Tagg

31 Mar 1909 - 24 Mar 1945

William Joseph Tagg was the son of William Joseph and Annie Emily (Sermon) Tagg, of Hackney, London; husband of Marjorie Beatrice (Schmidt) Tagg and father of Pamela Madge Tagg. William and Marjorie married on 30 July 1932 in West Ham. He enlisted in the Devonshire Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Tagg successfully completed glider training and was posted to 12th (Airborne) Battalion, Devonshire Regiment and took part in Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).

Pte Tagg was killed in action on 24 March 1945, age 35, and was given a field burial at Hamminkeln, Germany, and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Germany on 8 April 1947.
