Lance Corporal William J Moore

William James Moore was born in County Down and lived in Belfast, he enlisted in the General Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.

Lance Corporal Moore successfully completed glider training and was posted to 1st (Airborne) Battalion, Royal Ulster Rifles, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

L/Cpl Moore was killed in action on 7 June 1944, aged 20, and was given a field burial in St Honorine and was re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France, on 17 July 1945.
