Lance Corporal William H Wright

William Henry Wright was the son of William Henry and Jane Wright, of Stainforth, Yorkshire. He enlisted in The King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry and volunteered for airborne forces.

Lance Corporal Wright successfully completed parachute training at RAF Kabrit, Egypt and was posted to 156 Battalion the Parachute Regiment and later transferred to Defence Platoon, Headquarters 4th Brigade, The Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

L/Cpl Wright was killed in action on 20 September 1944, aged 25. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
