Staff Sergeant William Goodwin

William Goodwin was born and lived in Middlesex. He enlisted in the Royal Artillery and volunteered for airborne forces.

Staff Sergeant Goodwin successfully completed his glider pilot training and was posted to B Squadron, 1st Wing, The Glider Pilot Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

S/Sgt Goodwin was killed in action, aged 25, on 24 September 1944 and was given a field burial in a garden near the junction of Benedendorpsweg and Kneppelhoutweg at Oosterbeek, he was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 22 August 1945.
