Private William G Flower

William George 'Bill' Flower originally joined the Army in 1939. After service in the Royal Engineers, the South Staffordshire Regiment and then later a Search Light Battery of the Royal Artillery, he transferred to Airborne service. After successfully completing Parachute Course No 109 at RAF Ringway in early-April 1944, he served with 10th Parachute Battalion.

Pte Flower and took part in the Battle of Arnhem, during Op Market Garden. He was captured during 24 September as the Battle came to an end. He became a Prisoner of War, possibly at Stalag Luft V at Halle/Saale in Germany, and was registered as a POW until after VE Day, to mid-May 1945.

After his release, he was demobbed in October 1945.
