Private William A East

30 May 1943

William Alfred East the son of George W and Cissie A East, of Barking, Essex, enlisted into the Royal Army Service Corps and transferred to the Warwickshire Regiment before volunteering for airborne forces.

Private East successfully completed his training at Ringway on course 44 from 28 December 1942 to 8 January 1943, his report stated that he was ‘A good performer and worked well’.

He was then posted to the 3rd Battalion The Parachute Regiment and went with the battalion on Operation Torch in North Africa.

Pte East was killed in in a training accident on 30 May 1943. He is buried at Le Petit Lac Cemetery, Algeria.
