Lance Corporal William E Ramsey

28 Oct 1919 - 26 Mar 1945

William Edward Ramsey was the son of Walter and Ellen Eliza (Hicks) Ramsey, he enlisted in the Somerset Light Infantry and volunteered for airborne forces.

Lance Corporal Ramsey successfully completed glider training and was posted to 12th (Airborne) Battalion, Devonshire Regiment and took part in Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).

L/Cpl Ramsey was killed in action on 26 March 1945, age 25, and was given a field burial at Hamminkeln, Germany, and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Germany, on 8 April 1947.
