Sapper William D H Harris

30 May 1945

William David Herbert Harris, son of William and Margaret Harris, of Guildsfield, Montgomeryshire, enlisted into The General Service Corps, was posted to The Royal Engineers and volunteered for airborne forces.

Sapper Harris successfully completed his parachute training on course number 148B at RAF Ringway from 8 to 28 January 1945. His course report stated ‘A fair parachutist, works well’. He was posted to the 9th Airborne Squadron, Royal Engineers.

Spr Harris took part in Operation Doomsday. He died on 30 May 1945, aged 21, and is buried in Oslo Western Civil Cemetery.
