Private William Clouston

William Clouston was the son of James and Marion Clouston, of Coalsnaughton, Clackmannanshire, he enlisted in the 14/20th King’s Hussars, Royal Armored Corps and volunteered for Airborne forces.

Private Clouston successfully completed parachute training on course number 87 at RAF Ringway from 13 to 25 October 1943. His course report stated “Very good indeed, has set a fine example to the men”. He was posted to 13th (2/4th Battalion, The South Lancashire Regiment) Bn, The Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

Pte Clouston was killed in action on 9 June 1944, aged 28, and was buried at Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France.
