Corporal Walter R Sharp

Walter Richard Sharp was the son of Henry and Caroline Sharp and the husband of Eileen Sharp, of Gravesend, Kent. He enlisted in the Royal Army Service Corps, and volunteered for Airborne forces.

Corporal Sharp successfully completed glider training and was posted to 2 Platoon, 250 (Airborne) Light Composite Company, Royal Army Service Corps, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Cpl Sharp is known to have been killed on the 25/26 September 1944, aged 31, whilst crossing the river Rhine, during the withdrawal, and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
