Private Walter R Grewcock

17 Sep 1944

Walter Robert Grewcock, son of George Harry and Rose Grewcock, of Leicester, enlisted in the Leicestershire Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Grewcock successfully completed his glider training and was posted to D Company, 2nd (Airborne) Battalion, South Staffordshire Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte Grewcock was killed in action, aged 20, on 17 September 1944 and was given a field burial alongside a track north of the Reijerskamp farm, Oosterbeek, and was re-interred to Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 24 August 1945.
