Corporal Walter G Ariss

Walter George Ariss was the son of William and Margaret (How) Ariss; husband of Audrey Pamela (Allen) Ariss, of Eye, Northamptonshire. He enlisted in The Somerset Light Infantry and volunteered for airborne forces.

Corporal Ariss successfully completed glider training and was posted to 2nd (Airborne) Battalion, Oxford and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry and took part in operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).

Cpl Ariss was killed in action on 24 March 1945, aged 25, and was given a field burial at Hamminkeln and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery on 21 March 1947.
