Walter Atkinson enlisted into The Royal Artillery before volunteering for airborne forces.
He became a glider pilot with the Glider Pilot Regiment and flew Horsas.
RSM Atkinson was taken Prisoner of War in Sicily, he held in Camp 7A in Moosburg, Germany.
He died in February 1952 and is buried at Brookwood Military Cemetery.
