Lieutenant Thomas Reed

Thomas Reed was the husband of Sybil Winifred Reed, he was commissioned in the Royal Army Pay Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.

Lieutenant Reed successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 147B from 1 to 19 January 1945.

Records from the Airborne Assault Museum archives indicate he served with the 12th Parachute Battalion, 8th Platoon, C Company. After previously serving with The Green Howards.

Lt Reed was killed in action on 30 March 1945, aged 27, whilst taking part in Operation Varsity and was given a field burial at Coesfeld, Germany and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Germany, on 13 May 1947.

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission have him recorded as 8th Parachute Battalion.
