Trooper Thomas Murphy

Trooper Thomas Murphy was the son of Thomas and Hannah Murphy, of Birtley, Co Durham, and husband of Mary Jane Murphy, also of Birtley. He served with 1st Airlanding Recce Squadron, Reconnaissance Corps and was part of the Squadron force sent to North Africa to prepare for the invasion of Italy with 1st Airborne Division.

Trooper Murphy died, possibly due to a training accident in North Africa on 17 July 1943, aged 20 years old. He is now buried at Enfidaville War Cemetery, Tunisia.
