Private Thomas McDonald

Thomas McDonald was born and lived in County Durham, he enlisted in the Border Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private McDonald successfully completed Glider training and was posted to B Company, 1st (Airborne) Battalion the Border Regiment. He took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte McDonald was killed in action on 21 September 1944, aged 28. He was originally given a field burial in a garden south of Westerbouwing and was reinterred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 23 October 1945.
