Thomas Michael Roche was the son of John Patrick and Eileen Roche, of Woolsthorpe, Lincolnshire, he enlisted in the Royal Army Service Corps, and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Roche successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 83, from 15 to 24 September 1943. His course report stated “Slightly nervous, improved a lot, satisfactory course”. He was posted to C Company, 9th Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, and took part in operation Overlord (Normandy).

Pte Roche died of wounds on 9 June 1944, age 20, at a Main Dressing Station and was given a field burial at Le Mesnil, and was re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France, on 26 May 1945.
