Thomas Joseph Carrigan, son of Thomas and Mary Carrigan, of London, enlisted in The Rifle Brigade and volunteered for airborne forces.
Private Carrigan successfully completed his glider training and was posted to Support Company 7th (Airborne) battalion, King’s Own Scottish Borderers. He took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Pte Carrigan was killed in action on 20 September 1944, aged 23, and was given a field burial near Zilverenberg. He was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 1 July 1946.
