Sergeant Thomas Hollingsworth

Thomas Hollingsworth was the son of Thomas and Gladys Hollingsworth, of Wood Green, Staffordshire. He enlisted in the General Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.

Sergeant Hollingsworth successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway and also glider pilot training and was posted to G Squadron, 24 Flight, 1st Wing, The Glider Pilot Regiment. He took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Sgt Hollingsworth was shot, aged 21, by a German guard in Stalag XIB at Soltau on 6 October 1944, and was buried in the local POW cemetery at Orbke. He was re-interred to Becklingen War Cemetery on 12 August 1946.
