Signalman Thomas Ellam

Thomas Ellam was the son of Thomas and Margaret Ellam, of Ulverston, Lancashire. He enlisted in the Royal Corps of Signals and volunteered for airborne forces.

Signalman Ellam successfully completed glider training and was posted to 1st Airborne Division Signals, Royal Corps of Signals, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Sigmn Ellam is assumed to have drowned, aged 22, on the night of 25/26 September 1944 and his body was recovered from the river Rhine on 6 October 1944 and buried at Rhenen General Cemetery.
