Sapper Thomas Brooks

Thomas Brooks was the husband of Florence Louisa Brooks, of Leigh-on-Sea, Essex. He enlisted in the Royal Engineers and volunteered for Airborne forces.

Sapper Brooks successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 15, from 8 to 16 June 1942. He was posted to C Troop, 1st Parachute Squadron, Corps of Royal Engineers, and took part in Operation Torch (North Africa) Operation Husky (Sicily), Operation Slapstick (Italy) and Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Spr Brooks was killed in action on 21 September 1944, aged 24, by mortar fire in the Sonnenberg area. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Groesbeek memorial to the missing.
