Thomas Bethell was the husband of Jessie S Bethell, of Troon, Ayrshire. He enlisted in the Royal Artillery and volunteered for Airborne forces.
Lance Bombardier Bethell successfully completed glider training and was posted to 2 Airlanding Anti-Tank Battery, Royal Artillery, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
L/Bdr Bethell was killed in action between 25 and 26 September 1944, aged 30. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
