Lieutenant Sydney Robertson Smith, son of Sydney Charles Hudson Smith and Margaret Smith Laing Smith, of Sheffield, served with 1st Wing, Glider Pilot Regiment. He took part in the Battle of Arnhem, during Op Market Garden.
Lieutenant Smith died on 20 September 1944, aged 21 years old. He is now buried at Oosterbeek War Cemetery, Arnhem.
