Private Sydney G Armstrong

Private Sydney Gerard Armstrong was the son of Sydney and Mary Ann Armstrong, and the husband of Vera May Armstrong, of Redmile, Nottinghamshire. He served with 8th (Midlands) Parachute Battalion and took part in the Rhine Crossing, during Op Varsity.

Private Armstrong died on 24 March 1945, aged 29 years old. He is now commemorated on the Memorial at Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery, near Nijmegen.

Many of the other soldiers commemorated here died in the 1st Airborne fighting around Arnhem the previous Autumn.
