Lance Corporal Stephen D Spicer

Stephen David Spicer joined Airborne Forces following the footsteps of his father, and grandfather.

Lance Corporal David Dadswell served with 181 Airlanding Field Ambulance and was killed in the Battle of Arnhem, whilst his father Ron Spicer joined 10 PARA in honour of his own father-in-law.

Stephen initially served with 10 PARA, before joining the regular Army with 1st Battalion, The Queen's Regiment 'all on the back of stories of my dad and grandad'.

The family Airborne heritage is very important and he goes on to recall:

'I was very pleased to be invited to a 181 Airlanding Field Ambulance reunion where i met all his [David Dadswell's] old mates. What stories they had! I was told how he was killed and how the battle unfolded. They all signed a lovely print of the landing zone. I have some good memories of that day and have collected loads of info and photos.

Theres one good story of a chap called Alf Frampton, who used to visit my grandad's grave every year and say "For the grace of God go I"

Why? Well that's a story i will tell later'
