Stanley Ronald Hardy, son of J W and Mrs Hardy, of Edlington, Yorkshire, enlisted into The General Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.
Private Hardy successfully completed his Glider training and was posted to C Company, 1st (Airborne) Battalion, the Border Regiment.
He took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Pte Hardy was killed in action on 26 September 1944, aged 22.
He has no known grave and is now commemorated on the Memorial at Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery, near Nijmegen.
