Private Stanley L Kempton

Stanley Leonard Kempton was the son of Thomas Harry and Eliza (Piggott) Kempton; husband of Gladys Audrey (Goldsmith) Kempton, of Erith, Kent. Married January 1945, St Mary the Virgin, Stone, Kent. He enlisted in the General Service Corps and volunteered for Airborne Forces.

Private Kempton successfully completed glider training and was posted to 12th (Airborne) Battalion, Devonshire Regiment, and took part in Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).

Pte Kempton was killed in action on 2 April 1945, aged 25, and was given a field burial at Lengerich, Germany, and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery on 28 April 1947.
