Private Samuel Reid Meldrum served with C Company, 1 PARA.
He was severely burnt in a tent fire in Dhekelia on 8 January 1964 soon after the Battalion arrived in Cyprus.
Both he and Private Buchanan were flown back to Roehampton hospital in the UK.
Pte Buchanan who had been in the tent with others went back into the tent to rescue Pte Meldrum.
20 year old Pte Meldrum died on 30 January 1964. Pte Buchanan died on 12 February.
