Lieutenant Samuel M Barrett

Samuel McBride Barrett was born and lived in Carlisle, he was granted a commission and volunteered for airborne forces.

Lieutenant Barrett successfully completed glider training and was posted to 12th (Airborne) Battalion, Devonshire Regiment and took part in operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).

Lt Barrett was killed in action on 24 March 1945, and was given a field burial at Birten and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery on 6 December 1946.
