Private Samuel J Ham

23 Oct 1923 - 24 Mar 1945

Samuel John Ham was the son of James Charles and Mary Harriet Louisa (Emmins) Ham, of Southend-on-Sea, Essex. He enlisted in the Essex Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Ham successfully completed glider training and was posted to 2nd (Airborne) Battalion, Ox and Bucks Light Infantry, and took part in Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).

Pte Ham was killed in action on 24 March 1945, aged 21, and was given a field burial at Hamminkeln, Germany, and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery on 21 March 1947.
