Private Ronald Roberts served with Airborne Forces as part of the Defence Platoon, HQ 1st Parachute Brigade during the Second World War, and died at Arnhem.
Ronald Thomas Robert was born in April 1924, the son of William Harfield Roberts and Alice Beatrice May Roberts, of Osterley, Isleworth, Middlesex. Private Roberts transferred to Airborne Forces from the Royal Army Ordnance Corps.
After completion of Parachute Course 116 at RAF Ringway in late May 1944, he became a member of the Defence Platoon established to protect the Headquarters of the 1st Parachute Brigade, part of 1st Airborne Division. In September 1944, he took part in the Battle of Arnhem, during Op Market Garden.
Private Roberts died on 18 September 1944, aged 20 years old. He is now commemorated on the Memorial at Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery, near Nijmegen.
