Staff Sergeant Ronald Richard Ditch

Staff Sergeant Ronald Richard Ditch was the son of Percy Arthur and May Isabella Ditch, and husband of Ivy May Ditch, of Newhaven, Sussex. He originally enlisted in the East Surrey Regiment, before transferring to 1st Wing, Glider Pilot Regiment. He took part in the glider insertion to the Battle of Arnhem, during Op Market Garden.

He was reported missing during the attempt to cross the Lower Rhine during the evacuation on the British 1st Airborne Division. Staff Sergeant Ditch died on 26 September 1944, aged 30 years old. His body was recovered from the River Lek on the 10th March 1945, and subsequently buried in Wijk-bij-Duurstede General Cemetery, Utrecht.
