Private Ronald G Knight

Ronald Geoffrey Knight was the son of John and Olive Knight, of Hampshire, he enlisted into the General Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Knight successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 109, from 17 March to 7 April 1943. His course report stated “Worked hard, cheerful and confident, jumped well”. He was posted to A Company, 8th Bn., The Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

Pte Knight died of a gunshot wound to the chest on 20 August 1944, aged 18, and was buried in Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France.
