Acting Sergeant Roland D Nicholson

Roland D Nicholson was born in the Whitehaven area in 1921. He enlisted in the army in 1941. Started in artillery, with The Wiltshire Regiment before he volunteered for the airborne forces.

He went to RAF Ringway to complete his parachute jump instruction. Roland was on Course B162, which ran from 16 April 1945 to 7 may 1945. His instructor noted this about his performance: "Cheerful type, average ability"
