Roger Alexander Hammick was born on 4 December 1922 to Rear-Admiral Alexander Hammick and Nancy (Ross-Johnson).
Roger attended Hordle House school, and went on to the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth. In 1942 he was commissioned into the Devonshire Regiment, later volunteering for the 12th (Yorkshire) Parachute Battalion.
He attended parachute training course number 83 at RAF Ringway between 15 and 24 September 1943.
Lieutenant Hammick parachuted into Normandy on 6 June 1944, and was attached to the Divisional Headquarters. During the course of the day, Lt Hammick was wounded.
After recovering from his wound, he took part in the Ardennes campaign, and later in Operation Varsity and the Rhine Crossing in 1945. Lt Hammick was then posted to South East Asia, and sailed to Singapore in 1945 with the 5th Parachute Brigade.
Lieutenant Hammick died on 12 October 1945, aged 22, the result of a car accident. He is now buried at Kranji War Cemetery, Singapore.
